Luxury Accommodation Dunsborough: A Spring Couples’ Escape in Wine Country

Searching for luxury accommodation in Dunsborough for a spring escape together?

There is plenty to love about staying close to this beautiful South West town. Dunsborough has great restaurants, boutique shopping, calm beaches and easy access to Cape Naturaliste. But for a romantic weekend away, you do not necessarily need to stay right in the centre of town.

Just 20 minutes from Dunsborough, Edge Luxury Villas sits amongst the vineyards and forests of Wilyabrup, in the heart of the Margaret River Wine Region.

It gives couples the best of both worlds.

Spend the afternoon shopping and dining in Dunsborough, head out onto Geographe Bay to see the whales, then leave town behind and return to a secluded adults-only villa overlooking a private lake.

And in spring, that combination is particularly hard to beat.

Luxury Accommodation Near Dunsborough - Without Staying in Town

Dunsborough is one of our favourite places to spend a few hours, but sometimes the best part of a South West escape is having somewhere completely peaceful to come home to.

Edge Luxury Villas is approximately a 20-minute drive from Dunsborough, surrounded by the wineries, restaurants and rolling countryside of Wilyabrup.

Rather than a large holiday home or busy resort, there are just four private villas, each designed for two adults.

That means you can wake up to lake and forest views, spend your mornings slowly and still be in Dunsborough in time for coffee, shopping or lunch.

Each of our luxury villas includes thoughtful touches designed around a couples' escape, including:

  • A private deck cantilevered over the lake

  • King-sized bed with luxury linen

  • Freestanding bath

  • Wood fireplace

  • Fully equipped kitchen

  • Locally ground coffee and organic tea

  • Complimentary local wine

  • Lake, forest or vineyard outlooks

  • Beautifully considered interiors

  • Plenty of privacy

Edge is adults-only, with each villa accommodating a maximum of two guests.

It feels wonderfully removed from everything - without actually being far from anything.

Why Spring Is Such a Beautiful Time to Visit Dunsborough

Spring in the Margaret River Region has a bit of everything.

The days begin getting longer. Vineyards turn green again. Native wildflowers and orchids start appearing across the region and along the Cape Naturaliste coastline.

There is often enough sunshine to spend an afternoon outside, but mornings and evenings can still be beautifully crisp.

At Edge, that means you might spend the afternoon sitting on your over-water deck with a glass of wine before coming inside, lighting the fire and settling in for the evening.

Unlike the middle of summer, you are not necessarily planning every day around the beach either.

Spring lends itself to so many other options.

A winery lunch. A drive into Dunsborough. A walk along the coast. A whale watching tour. An afternoon back at the villa doing absolutely nothing.

For couples, that can be exactly what a South West getaway should be.

Spend an Afternoon in Dunsborough

One of the advantages of choosing luxury accommodation near Dunsborough is being able to enjoy the town without needing to stay amongst it.

From Edge, the drive into Dunsborough takes approximately 20 minutes.

Dunsborough has become much more than a beach town, with a growing mix of independent fashion, homewares and lifestyle stores alongside cafés, bars and restaurants. The wider Margaret River Region is known for its collection of boutique shops selling fashion, gifts, homewares and locally made products.

It is the sort of place where you can easily lose a couple of hours without really having a plan.

Pick up a coffee, browse the boutiques and then continue down towards the coast before heading back through wine country to Edge.

Make Dinner in Dunsborough Part of the Escape

If you are staying for a few nights, book at least one evening in Dunsborough.

Two excellent options for a couples' dinner are Yarri Restaurant + Bar and Blue Manna Bistro.

Yarri has built a reputation for modern Australian dining driven by seasonal ingredients and Western Australian produce, while Blue Manna specialises in fresh local seafood and produce.

Both make a lovely reason to dress up, head into town for the evening and enjoy a delicious dinner together.

Then make the easy drive back through the vineyards and countryside to Edge, where your private villa, a glass of Margaret River wine and - on those cooler spring evenings - a fire are waiting.

Go Whale Watching From Dunsborough

Spring also brings one of Dunsborough's most impressive natural experiences.

According to Naturaliste Charters, Dunsborough's whale watching season runs from August through November, when humpback whales, southern right whales and blue whales can be seen in the region's waters.

Tours depart from Geographe Bay, making this an easy half-day experience to add to a spring couples' escape.

Prefer to stay on land?

Cape Naturaliste also provides opportunities for spotting migrating whales from the coast. The Margaret River Region recommends the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse area as a particularly beautiful spring destination because visitors can combine wildflowers, walking trails and whale spotting.

Pack the binoculars.

Stay in the Heart of Margaret River Wine Country

This is where staying at Edge rather than directly in Dunsborough really comes into its own.

Wilyabrup is right in the heart of the Margaret River Wine Region.

You are surrounded by vineyards, cellar doors and winery restaurants, so there is no need to drive all the way down to Margaret River town to enjoy exceptional wine.

One nearby option is Aravina Estate, where you can combine a cellar-door tasting with lunch overlooking the vineyard.

Or make a day of it and choose two or three Wilyabrup cellar doors rather than trying to fit every winery in the region into one afternoon.

Take your time.

Find a Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay you both love. Have a long lunch. Buy a bottle to bring back to the villa.

The luxury here is not seeing how much you can squeeze into the day.

It is having nowhere else you need to be.

And Then Come Back to Edge

There will always be another restaurant to try, winery to visit or beach to find.

But we think some of the best hours of your stay should be spent right here.

Edge was created by husband-and-wife team Clare and Cameron after years spent transforming their 137-acre Wilyabrup property.

Thousands of trees were planted, old-growth forest protected, a lake created and the property gradually transformed before the four villas eventually opened at the end of 2023.

You can read Clare and Cameron's story here.

Today, the villas sit cantilevered across the lake, intentionally designed to make privacy part of the experience.

Spring mornings can start with locally ground coffee overlooking the water.

If the sun comes out, open the doors and spend some time on the deck.

When the temperature drops later in the day, pour a bath, open the wine you picked up at a nearby cellar door and light the wood fire.

Every villa at Edge has its own fireplace, with firewood supplied during the cooler months.

That contrast is one of the reasons we love spring here so much: sunny afternoons can still turn into the sort of cool South West evenings that make staying in feel every bit as good as going out.

A Different Kind of Luxury Accommodation in Dunsborough

Many people searching for luxury accommodation in Dunsborough are naturally presented with large holiday homes in Dunsborough, Eagle Bay and the surrounding coastal areas. Those properties can be ideal when you are travelling with family or a group of friends, but a weekend away for two can call for something a little different.

At Edge, the villas have been purpose-built specifically for couples. There are just four villas across the entire property, each accommodating two adults and surrounded by the lake, vineyards and native forest.

You are still within easy reach of everything the region offers, with Dunsborough approximately 20 minutes away, Yallingup around 10 minutes away and Margaret River town about 25 minutes away. Some of the Margaret River Region’s wineries and cellar doors are even closer, putting you right in the heart of wine country.

It is a beautiful base for doing as much - or as little - as you like.

Who Is Edge Luxury Villas Best For?

Edge is particularly suited to couples planning:

  • A romantic weekend away

  • An anniversary escape

  • A honeymoon or mini-moon

  • A babymoon

  • A birthday surprise

  • A proposal

  • A few child-free days together

  • A luxury spring getaway Down South

Our Vineyard's Edge Premium Villa is particularly special for celebrations, with a larger 102m² layout, two-person freestanding bath and uninterrupted vineyard and lake views.

But all four villas have been designed around the same idea: privacy, comfort and the chance to properly switch off together.

Dunsborough might be where you spend the afternoon.
